Hi.

I am an Emirati foodie who was bit by the travel bug a couple of years ago.

Feel free to recommend your favorite restaurants and hotels for me to review!

Battle on Sentosa Island

Battle on Sentosa Island

One of the highlights of my trip to Singapore was my visit to Sentosa Island. I am usually a city girl so the fact this beautiful island is conveniently located a stone-throws away from the heart of Singapore, made my concrete-jungle loving heart flutter.

This comparison is one of the old vs the new: the Capella Singapore vs W Singapore- Sentosa Cove. I have not stayed in either but I got a complete tour of each location and I was blown away by both so this will be a tough battle.

My day started at the W where as soon as I stepped in I was transported to an alternate reality of cool. This was the first W I got to truly experience and it was the beginning of what is sure to be a long affair. A few things that stood out to me, other than the ridiculously beautiful pool, were the private conversation pods- they look like helmets hanging from the ceiling and when the music is popping, they are a great place to have a quite chat- or, more likely, a good spot for a photo op- and the nearby peer where a bunch of local eateries were located. At times resort style hotels can feel isolated so I liked the illusion of feeling like I could step away from the hotel. The rooms were a decent size with pink lighting, I personally didn’t appreciate the flower cut-outs but the space was utilized well.

My next stop was the Capella Singapore and it could not be any more different than the W as this hotel was originally built in the 1880s for British Officers, later recognized as a historically significant site in 2000. I happened to arrive when it was pouring cats and dogs outside so we were shuffled into the The Library and as I looked out onto the once serene rainforest now flooded in heavenly showers, my breath escaped me. Sipping tea as it rained made me feel elegant and the smell of old books around me made giddy, if only I had a Walking Dress on.

It soon stopped raining and I was taken to the meeting rooms where wall-length windows, bring the forest into the room, allowing nature to serve as a beautiful backdrop to any event. The giggles of laughing children accompanied our walk to the rooms as we passed by an elegant pool. The room was beautiful, much like the rest of the hotel, the balance of old and new was maintained with the wooden elements bringing the history in, without making the space feel stuffy and ancient.

I am surprising myself here by saying I would choose the Capella over the W, both places achieved the difficult task of transporting me to an alternate reality but the Capella just made me feel like I walked into a storybook, one I wish I didn’t have to leave. I can’t wait to one day return as a guest as I have found their communication post-visit to be exemplary.
