Best hotel I ever stayed at!
Long before I ever thought of starting a blog, I took a trip to Seville, Spain and fell in love with an old palace that was converted into a hotel. The Hotel Alfonso XII was built in 1920s but was renovated in 2012. The palace was built in the Andalusian style and the building frames a stunning patio and fountain.
Not only were the rooms stunning and the hotel itself decorated in regal fashion, but the staff were amazingly attentive. We were taken up to our room in a hidden elevator but I preferred coming up and down the stairs so that I could take in the beauty of the hotel.
The room was clean, beautifully decorated and spacious. Modern with a hint of the past, I loved the lighting and the fact that I had a small balcony to look out at the city below. Seville is a charming little city, easy to walk through and very close to Granada and the Alhambra if you are interested in day trips.
Speaking of trips, I had planned poorly for mine and a quick online search resulted in zero available visits to the historic Alhambra. Before heading the breakfast, I stopped by the concierge and asked about a tour in Seville as well as one to the Alhambra. He made a couple of phone calls with no success then said he would continue working on it while I enjoyed my breakfast. And he definitely delivered because as soon as we were done eating he had planned both tours for us in English with the local one departing from the hotel.
If you are ever even remotely close to the Alhambra, I definitely recommend that you go give it a visit, it is such a beautiful space and so rich in Moorish history. I could have spent all day there but I had a Segway tour to catch in Granada! This was my first ever Segway tour and it was so amazing that I have since been on Segway tours around the world. The company I used was Play and the challenge of segwaying through the curvy, narrow, cobblestone pathways of Granada only to find ourselves at an even more beautiful location than the one we had just left was unforgettable.
After working up an appetite, we returned to Seville for a quick bite and headed straight to bed. I wish I spent more time at the hotel because the decor was amazing and the service was even better all the way to the last second. As I was checking out, I asked to purchase the coffee table they had in the room and the lady immediately and unexpectedly said that it was a gift from the hotel to me and got me a brand new copy.
My only complaint with the hotel is that despite being a part of the Luxury Collection, it took some time for me to get my SPG points here. This was really an error on SPG’s part but I would urge you to always make sure that you receive points for your stay and make sure how many points you will get before you book if it seems unclear on the site.
